Summary
It has been demonstrated that a Cyprus (BT-CV) and a California (BT-8) strain of bluetongue virus are not sensitive to inactivation by treatment with ether and sodium deoxycholate. Two methods for assaying the sensitivity of viruses to sodium deoxycholate in cell cultures are described. Some aspects of these findings are considered in light of what is known of bluetongue as an arthropod-borne virus disease.
