Abstract
Summary
A quantitative assay was devised for the spleen weight increase factor (SWIF). With it, a precise relationship was established between extracellular annular structures in the blood of infected splenectomized mice and the spleen weight of intact mice. Since these annular structures are prominent morphological elements of the entity designated E. coccoides, it was concluded that the SWIF is identical with E. coccoides. It was found that the spleen in situ is a deterrent to the infectivity of the plasma.
