Summary
Evidence is presented that human erythrocyte glucose-6-phosphate dehy-drogenase is specific for the β anomer of glucose and glucose-6-phosphate. It is suggested that this specificity is responsible for the lack of stimulation of the hexose monophosphate pathway by methylene blue when galactose is used as a substrate.
