Summary
Paradoxical sleep occurred in rats in response to a 5-minute period of “lights-off” stimulation. Usually the paradoxical sleep episode had ended before the lights came on again. The “lights-on” stimulus did not appear to produce any changes in the sleep-wakefulness cycle.
