Summary

Retardation of the rate of insulin degradation results in a highly significant insulin effect upon glucose utilization by the rat kidney. Insulin inactivation may be inhibited by lowered incubation temperature or the in vivo and in vitro administration of alloxan. These observations suggest that under appropriate conditions, tissues heretofore believed to be insulin-insensitive may be shown to respond to insulin.
