Inhibition of Ovarian Ascorbic Acid Depletion with Ovine Luteinizing Hormone Antiserum. ∗

Summary

Male rabbits were immunized against ovine luteinizing hormone (LH). Antiserum globulins were concentrated to one-third the original volume of antiserum by ammonium sulfate precipitation and tested by gel diffusions for specific and cross-reacting antibodies with other ovine pituitary preparations. Biological inactivation of ovine LH by the antiserum was tested by the LH dependent ovarian ascorbic acid depletion response. Standard doses of NIH-LH-S_8, 6.4 and 25.0 μg, significantly depleted mean ovarian ascorbic acid below saline control values (P<0.05). Antiserum administered iv immediately prior to LH injection prevented ovarian ascorbic acid depletion (P<0.05).
