Effect of Oxygen Tension on Drug Levels and Pharmacological Action in the Intact Animal 1

Summary

A markedly increased pO₂ shortens hexobarbital sleep times in the intact rat while decreased pO₂ lengthens it. These changes are not related to the rate of hexobarbital biotransformation. A decreased pO₂ has no effect on the rates of metabolism of the drugs studied, but an increased pO₂ increases the rate of disappearance of INH and sulfadiazine from the plasma.
