Summary
Five female monkeys were immunized to a sheep anterior pituitary (SAP) preparation. The antigonadotropic activity of the plasma was assayed by neutralization of rat ovarian and uterine response to simultaneously injected antigen. Antigonadotropic activity appeared during the fourth week of immunization and was accompanied by a marked regression in the sex skin color and decrease in the size of uterus and ovaries. The anti-SAP developed in the monkey showed a biological cross-reactivity with ovine FSH, HCG, pregnant mare's serum gonadotropin (PMS), and a monkey anterior pituitary preparation. A progonadotropic effect of plasma was evident during the early part of immunization.
