Summary
A diet supplemented 5% with L-histidine caused a 100% increase in the incorporation of [2-14C] acetate or [1-14C] octanoate into cholesterol in liver slices of weanling rats after four days of feeding. The incorporation of the labeled substrates into triglycerides decreased 38%. The hepatic DNA-to-protein ratio decreased 19% with histidine feeding, suggesting an increase in hepatocyte size.
