Summary
Pregnant mares' urine has been demonstrated to contain a relatively high protein anabolic activity as determined by nitrogen balance and body weight studies in castrated dogs. A large proportion of the activity is in the α-ketonic fraction of a neutral fat-soluble extract and is probably due to more than one compound.
