Abstract
The measurement of the material properties of soft magnetic composites is yet a technical challenge because of the high magnetization currents in the saturation region [1]. If in an initially closed magnetic circuit an external air gap is introduced, the normal magnetization curve inclined more and more and flattened. This effect is referred to as shear. In powder composite materials this effect is called internal shear, since air gaps caused by the isolation of the individual powder particles. The high magnetization currents and magnetic field strengths occur because of this internal shear. The high magnetic field strengths cause a high apparent power demand for the measurement sample. In this work two advanced test method for measuring the normal magnetization curve of powder composites are presented and compared with each other. With this measuring method it is also possible to perform magnetic measurements in the saturation region. The normal magnetization curve is required for finite elements calculations and analytical calculations up to the saturation.
