Abstract
Hyperalgesia is a symptom often associated with inflammation. The essential role of prostaglandins (PG) in hyperalgesia has long been known since the early 1970 s. Molecular identification of PG receptors and PG-synthesizing enzymes in the late 1980 s/early 1990 s has greatly advanced the understanding of inflammatory hyperalgesia. In this review, we provide an overview of the PG system in the spinal cord, focusing on its relevance to inflammatory hyperalgesia.
