Scalds are caused by contact with hot liquids or steam, mainly caused by spillage and immersion. The extent of the scald burn depends on temperature, volume and density of the liquid, age of the child and absorbing ability of the clothes. For the prevention of scalds, the need was felt to study the pattern and the characteristics of scald burns among children.

To assess the characteristics of scald, burn injuries in children admitted to the tertiary care centre of North India.

A descriptive study was conducted in plastic surgery units of a tertiary care centre in northern India. A total of 45 children (aged up to 14 years) were enrolled using total enumerating sampling at the time of admission to the hospital. The caregivers were interviewed as per an interview schedule composing of (a) sociodemographic profile of the children and caregivers, (b) burn assessment sheet and wound status.

Majority of scalds were due to spillage (84.4%) and 75.6% children did not receive first aid, 62.2% children did not apply anything just after the burn. Majority of the scalds happened indoors (77.8%). Most of the caregivers (84.4%) preferred the local civil hospital for the first consultation. Burnt area of 26.7% of children was in the range of 20%–25% total burn surface area (TBSA). The commonly burnt part was the lower extremities (26.1%) and chest (19.3%). Spillage from edible items was responsible for 60% of burns (tea, coffee, milk, dal, etc.). Half of the scalds happened where the kitchen was not separated from the living room, the kitchen was a sitting style or floor cooking. Most of the kitchens (60%) did not have a door and were attached to the living room. Age up to three years old and male children are at high risk for scald burns.

Spillage is the most common mode of scald. Majority of scalds occurred in indoor, that is, kitchen and bathroom. It indicates a lack of awareness and poor handling of about keep of hot drinks and hot water in houses. Raising awareness among caregivers protecting children from hot drinks and hot water is important for prevention of scald burn injuries.

Satisfaction with childhood vaccination services is a vital indication of care quality and it significantly influences healthcare outcomes. However, there is a paucity of comprehensive evidence on parents’ satisfaction with vaccination services. This review aimed to evaluate the level of satisfaction with childhood vaccination services and identify the determinants influencing this satisfaction among parents in Ethiopia.

Studies were systematically searched from April 3, 2024 to 30, 2024 using Scopus, Web of Science, PubMed, Science Direct, African Journal Online, and the Wiley Online Library. The Newcastle-Ottawa Scale quality assessment tool designed for quality assessments was used to assess the scientific strength and the quality of each primary study. A random effects model was employed to calculate the pooled estimates. The Cochran’s Q test and I² statistic were used to assess the heterogeneity of studies. The symmetry of the funnel plot and Egger’s test were used to check for publication bias. Percentages and odds ratios (OR) with 95% confidence interval (CI) were used to pool the effect measure.

In this review, a total of 146,987 articles were retrieved. Ultimately, 13 studies involving 6,023 participants were included in the analysis. The level of parental satisfaction with childhood vaccination services was found to be 65.6% (95% CI: 58.74, 72.44%). Knowledge about vaccination services (adjusted odds ratio (aOR) = 1.93; 95% CI: 1.09, 3.42), favorable attitudes toward vaccination (aOR = 3.23; 95% CI: 1.86, 5.62), welcoming approaches (aOR = 3.89; 95% CI: 1.80, 8.42), and waiting less than 30 minutes to receive services (aOR = 2.59; 95% CI: 1.25, 3.35) were the factors which contributed significantly to parental satisfaction with childhood vaccination services.

Overall, only two-thirds of parents were satisfied with the childhood vaccination services. Key factors of the level of satisfaction included healthcare providers’ greeting or welcoming approach, waiting times of less than 30 minutes at health facilities, knowledge, as well as their attitudes. To improve parental satisfaction in Ethiopia and similar contexts, it is crucial to address these risk factors. Policymakers should establish guidelines for compassionate and respectful care provision and develop strategies to implement patient-centered care services. Furthermore, it is recommended to improve timely and welcoming approaches to healthcare service delivery. Finally, enhancing parental satisfaction with healthcare services requires a multifaceted approach that prioritizes respectful interactions and efficient service delivery.

Academic integrity is necessary for maintaining the highest standards in any healthcare profession, including nursing. Plagiarism poses a serious threat to it. This study is aimed at thoroughly investigating the attitude toward plagiarism (ATP) and its correlation with personal factors among nursing faculty in India.

This cross-sectional study was performed among 215 nursing college faculty using a structured questionnaire built in Google Forms and was shared in professional WhatsApp groups across India. The questionnaire had 29 items, which included the ATP under three attitudinal factors: positive attitude, negative attitude, and subjective norms. Institutional Ethics Committee approval was obtained prior; informed consent was taken from the participants.

The mean age of the subjects in this study was 34.7 years, and 79.5% were female. Our study noted that 54.4% (95% CI: 47.7%–61%) had an antiplagiarism attitude. Factors, namely, designation, number of publications, experience as a research guide, and years of such experience, were significantly associated with a positive ATP using binary logistic regression. In multivariate binary regression analysis, those who had >15 publications and 1–3 years of experience as a research guide had 4.9 times (95% CI: 1.9–16.1) and 3.1 times (95% CI: 1.4–6.9) higher chance, respectively, toward antiplagiarism attitude.

Nearly half of the participants, and those with a higher number of publications and experience as a research guide, had an antiplagiarism attitude. Hence, encouraging nursing faculty to get involved in publication and orienting them on plagiarism-free research could inculcate a favorable attitude.

Ghana’s healthcare sector came under criticism regarding the quality of healthcare delivery, with issues relating to high-profile healthcare controversies, civil suits, and unfavorable patient outcomes due to medical incompetence. Despite the implementation of quality health programs, quality culture is yet to be institutionalized, leading to poor ties between clinical care and public health at the district level, and unclear monitoring and governance mechanisms. These have resulted in quality approaches that have had no effect on patient satisfaction and health outcomes. Even though nurses devote more hours to patients than most healthcare staff and offer care to patients on a regular basis, the daily assessment of the care they provide to patients is conducted without a thorough understanding of what quality healthcare entails. This study aims at assessing the quality of healthcare service delivery from the nurses’ perspective in a healthcare facility.

This was a cross-sectional quantitative study carried out among 104 systematically selected nurses. A standard questionnaire designed in accordance with the Donabedian Model of Quality Care was administered, and a reliability analysis (α) was conducted to ensure internal validity and reliability of the items used to measure the constructs. The structure subscale consisted of 12 items (α = 0.51), process subscale, 12 items (α = 0.62), and service quality (outcome) also consisted of 12 items (α = 0.58). Mardia’s Skewness and Kurtosis, Henze–Zirkler, and Doornik–Hansen multivariate normality tests were conducted at p values of .006, .102, .034, and .048, respectively, to ensure the independence of each construct as well as to satisfy the normality criteria. Descriptive analysis was also run to determine the extent to which the items reflect the current state of healthcare delivery. Finally, correlation, linear regression, and multivariate analysis of variance (MANOVA) analyses were carried out at a significant level of ≤0.05 to determine relationships and effects on healthcare delivery outcomes.

Findings indicated a generally neutral opinion of the quality measures in relation to structures, processes, and outcomes of care at the study facility. Nurses faced limitations in providing needed care due to inadequate policy framework and enforcement, insufficient human resources, and lack of motivational packages. A Pearson r correlation matrix of the Donabedian constructs showed significant positive relationships between Structure and Process as well as Outcome and Process categories. A weak positive association outcome and structure constructs was, however, deemed insignificant. A MANOVA determined a significant effect of respondents’ gender and educational levels on their perception of quality healthcare.

Supervision in the hospital company and staff-management relationship must be strengthened to ensure a holistic quality of nursing care delivery.

In terms of incidence, breast cancer has surpassed lung cancer as the most frequent disease among women; in 2022, there were 2.3 million new cases and 685,000 fatalities reported.

The main objective of this study was to evaluate beliefs and perceptions of self-breast examination (SBE) for breast cancer prevention among young women in Jharkhand.

The current study used triangulation research approach in which belief for SBE was assessed by qualitative approach and perception for SBE was assessed by using quantitative research approach. Sample size calculation was done by using population prevalence of 4% and a total of 59 young females were included for final data collection. The current study included 59 young, healthy female participants from three chosen rural Jharkhand districts, that is, Deoghar, Dhumka, and Jamtara.

The majority of participants, average age of 28.9 years, were married (60%), had a graduate degree (51%), and did not use contraception (56%). The majority of female participants had a menstrual cycle lasting 5 days and had no family history of breast lumps. Female participants’ believed that there was no correlation between breast size and breast cancer (70%), high-fat foods and little fruit and vegetable intake (59%). Women’s perceptions of SBE were that most of them (60%) had no idea what SBEs were, how to execute them (67%), when to perform them (67%), or which three positions to perform them (71%).

Tribal women posed limited awareness and poor knowledge of SBE for breast cancer prevention.

Tattoo-acquired hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection is an under-recognized source of acute hepatic insult. Tattooing has emerged as a non-traditional yet significant source of HBV transmission, particularly when done from unregularized parlors. HBV can serve as an acute insult precipitating acute-on-chronic liver failure (ACLF) in patients with underlying chronic liver disease, such as nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH). ACLF refers to a reversible clinical syndrome having high short-term mortality, characterized by acute hepatic insult leading to liver decompensation in patients with underlying chronic liver disease. ¹ The condition can be precipitated by various acute events, including viral infections. This case report describes a rare instance of tattoo-acquired hepatitis B infection precipitating ACLF in a patient with asymptomatic undiagnosed NASH.

A 34-year-old male, with a body mass index of 24.4 kg/m² and no significant medical history, presented with jaundice, nausea, vomiting, and fever after undergoing a tattoo procedure a few weeks prior. Liver function tests revealed elevated transaminases, high bilirubin levels, and prolonged prothrombin time. Hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) was positive, while tests for other hepatitis viruses, including hepatitis A, C, and E, were negative. Imaging and liver biopsy indicated underlying NASH with fibrosis but no cirrhosis. The patient was treated with antivirals, antibiotics, and diuretics, showing significant improvement by the time of discharge.

Tattoo-related HBV infection can precipitate ACLF in individuals with silent chronic liver disease. This case underscores the importance of public awareness, regulation of tattooing practices, and vigilance for NASH, even in non-obese individuals.
