The Police Journal: Theory,Practice and Principles

We congratulate Mr. Mallett on winning H.M. Gold Medal with the following essay, submitted in the 1971 Queen's Police Gold Medal Essay Competition. At the time of winning this award, Mr. Mallett was a Chief Inspector in the Devon and Cornwall Constabulary. He is now employed by the Force in a civilian capacity.

Mr. Stobart's paper on assaults on police has attracted interest in the National and the Police Press. Here is the complete version, now revised by the author, of the enquiry he conducted in the Metropolitan Police, the Liverpool and Bootle Constabulary, and the South Wales Constabulary.

Mr. Dear's article is based upon a study he made whilst attending the Senior Command Course at the Police College, Bramshill. It constitutes a general appreciation of the position regarding coloured immigrant communities with particular reference to problems presented to the police.

Constable Gifford, a working dog-handler, recently paid a visit to Germany to study the police dogs at Saarbrucken. He reports his findings in the country which has played the largest part in the development of police dogs.
