Towards a Clear Grasp of the Possibilities: A Review of L N Avdot'in's Textbook The Application of Computer Techniques and Modelling in Architectural Design

This paper reviews The Application of Computer Techniques and Modelling in Architectural Design, by L N Avdot'in, published in 1978, and authorised by the Ministry of Higher and Secondary Specialised Education of the USSR as a textbook for students taking courses on this topic in Architecture disciplines of Higher Education Establishments throughout the Soviet Union. The review outlines the range of topics covered by the book and places it in the context of an official view about the proper role of such techniques in design. The text has been supplemented here with figures reproduced from the book itself.
