Correction to: J Altern Complement Med 2016;22(12):1007–1012. DOI: 10.1089/acm.2016.0115

In the December 2016 issue of The Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine (vol. 22, no. 12, pp.1007-1012, DOI: 10.1089/acm.2016.0115) in the article entitled “Probiotics and Allergic Rhinitis: A Simon Two-Stage Design to Determine Effectiveness” by Annabelle M. Watts, Nicholas P. West, Peter K. Smith, Allan W. Cripps, and Amanda J. Cox, an error was discovered in the total number of strains contained in the supplement Ecologic^® AllergyCare.

In the original cited manuscript, the probiotic supplement Ecologic^® AllergyCare (Winclove Probiotics B.V., The Netherlands) was reported to contain five different probiotic strains. With the application of new molecular identification techniques, including whole genome sequencing, the total number of strains contained in the supplement Ecologic^® AllergyCare has been corrected to consist of six probiotic strains with the inclusion of Bifidobacterium lactis W51. The sentence, on p.1008, second column, under the section heading Intervention, has been revised as follows:

The probiotic mixture contains bacterial strains Bifidobacterium bifidum W23, Bifidobacterium lactis W51, Lactobacillus acidophilus W55, Lactobacillus casei W56, Lactobacillus salivarius W57, and Lactobacillus salivarius W58.

In addition, the number of probiotic strains has been changed from five to six in the sentence on p. 1009, second column, under the section heading Discussion:

The preparation presented here includes six strains, which may enhance therapeutic benefit and add to the current knowledge.

The total colony forming units count remains unchanged. The total number of strains and declaration of strains have been corrected in the original article accordingly.
