Abstract

I would like to acknowledge and thank Dr. Jo Handelsman for her outstanding leadership of the journal over the past few years, as well as her very able managing editor, Karen Cloud-Hansen. Dr. Handelsman is moving on to take on the very exciting challenge of her new role as President-Elect of the American Society for Microbiology.
I envision a number of changes to our editorial board, including our newly appointed team of Section Editors. We hope to move the journal to the next level of prestige and influence and make it an even more attractive destination for the most exciting peer-reviewed scientific articles, review articles, and special focus issues on topics in molecular and cellular biology of the 21st century. The journal will publish important basic science and translational research, as well as meeting reports.
The journal will continue to be dedicated to ensuring reproducible results, fully controlled studies, and the highest level of scientific integrity.
The journal will consider articles in five general areas, each overseen by a section editor: Organelles, Autophagy, and Apoptosis: Dr. Maria Louisa Campo Guinea, Universidad de Extremadura, Caceres, Spain Molecular Genetics, Genomics, and Epigenetics: Dr. Mariusz Nowacki, Institut fur Zellbiologie, Bern, Switzerland Protein Expression, Modification, and Regulation: Dr. Maurizio Molinari, Institute for Research in Biomedicine, Bellinzona, Switzerland Molecular Mechanisms of Disease: Dr. Sandra K. Silberman, Translational Medicine, Quintiles, Morrisville, North Carolina Cell-autonomous Inflammation and Host responses to infection: Dr. Carol Shoshkes Reiss, Biology and Neural Science Departments, New York University, New York, New York
We will acknowledge the fine contributions of the scientists who participate in the peer-review process in the February issue of each year; the journal could not exist without their professional and timely critical evaluation of the work of others. All reviewers will receive a copy of the decision letter to the submitting corresponding authors.
Accepted articles will be published online ahead of print, generally 6 weeks after editorial decision. Those articles will be listed immediately, with DOI number, on search engines such as PubMed. Please join us in contributing your articles to DNA and Cell Biology.
I look forward to spearheading the DNA and Cell Biology editorial team toward achieving great success in 2012, and continuing to extend and build upon the important contributions Dr. Handelsman has made in strengthening the contribution that the journal makes to the field.
