Abstract

His current research interests include renal stone surgery and post-surgery quality of life measurements, laser technology, vaccination for urinary tract infections, new minimally invasive prostate treatments, laser surgery for eroded vaginal mesh, complaints and litigations, diversity and inclusion, simulation and education, and Uro-technology including Apps and AI. He has been the advisor to the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) Interventional Committee and ‘invited expert’ to NICE Urological Infection Guidelines.
Over the last 12 years his clinical and research work has been covered by BBC, ITV, Daily Mail, The Telegraph and other newspapers and media articles on several occasions. He has raised awareness in highlighting risk factors for development of kidney stones such as dehydration, diet, and obesity.
He coordinates the largest hands-on-training simulation course for urology in the world (EAU-European Urology Residents Education Programme) and is a board member of EAU section of urolithiasis (EULIS) and ESU. He is a member of EAU guideline panel for urolithiasis, EAU podcast lead, and on the EAU live surgery and undergraduate urology committees.
He has published over 650 scientific papers, has been invited as speaker, and a moderator to perform live surgery in more than 30 countries worldwide. He has raised a grant income of £5 million. With dedication, commitment and passion for research and teaching, he collaborates nationally and internationally, sharing his research and teaching successfully across the world. He has published excellent clinical and research outcomes that translate into patient benefit.
For his work, he has received the ‘Zenith Global Health Award’ Surgical Specialties Special Recognition (2021), the ‘Golden Cystoscope Award' by the British Association of Urological Surgeons (2021), and the ‘Arthur Smith Endourology Award’ by the Endourological Society (2020).
