Abstract

Our family wants everyone to know that Duchenne muscular dystrophy and the CRISPR trial did not define the person Terry was. What Terry lacked in physical strength, Terry excelled in intelligence, kindness, and love for his family and friends. He was honest, driven, and willing to help anyone in need. So much so, that when a coworker's father was dying, Terry did his work, so he could spend quality time with his dad. Terry always remembered his coworker's birthdays, retirements, and get-well cards when they were not feeling well. Even to the point of delivering soup when COVID impacted his dear friend, Ani. Terry held so much admiration and love for his Discord friends, too. They all shared their problems and enjoyed playing video games, computer golf, watching movies, and sharing specialty drinks! These young men traveled from all over the United States to show their love and respect at Terry's Celebration of Life.
As a baby, Terry never fussed or cried. He was always content and just happy to be with everyone. Before he lost his ability to walk, he loved playing catch after dinner, getting ice cream, and taking walks with his grandmother and grandfather. He enjoyed riding his bike up and down the driveway and riding the tractor around our fields. Terry also loved building extraordinary Star Wars Lightsabers with crystals, lights, and sound, which he sold all over the world. Terry took so much pride in his work and made sure each Lightsaber was made to perfection.
Later, Terry built his own water-cooled gaming computer. His first custom computer sat on the ground, so his second computer he designed to sit on top of his desk so he could monitor problems if they occurred.
Terry was an avid Star Wars fan. He loved playing video games with his brother, Rich, going to the Star Wars Conventions and collecting Star Wars memorabilia. Terry's computer skills (which were self-taught) were remarkable. Terry designed a program so his dad could access the family car wash business through his phone. He was able to start the wash, open and close the overhead doors, and he installed the camera programs so he could observe any issues with the wash. I could go on and on about Terry's accomplishments in his life. But one thing I know for sure, Terry was totally dedicated to doing his very best—from school to his career at Cornell.
Terry was our universe and our reason for living. Terry was not only our loving son, but also our best friend. He brought so much happiness to his dad and I. We needed Terry so much more than he ever needed us. He was, by far, the most courageous, selfless, and loyal person I have ever known in my entire life. I am forever grateful and proud to call Terry my son.
If our love could have saved you Terry, you would still be here with us. Our love will always be with you, Terry, forever. You are our beacon of light, showing us the way through our darkest days.
