Abstract

Arranz L, De Castro NM, Baeza I, Maté I, Viveros MP, De la Fuente M. Environmental enrichment improves age-related immune system impairment: Long-term exposure since adulthood increases life span in mice. Rejuvenation Res 2010;13: 415–428. doi:10.1089/rej.2009.0989.
There is an error in Fig. 6 of this article. The black line, which appears to the left of the figure, shows the results of accumulated survival of the control group, whereas the dotted line (to the right of figure) shows the results in the Environmental Enrichment (EE) group. This is contrary to the description in the figure legend. Thus, exposure of mice to EE not only improves their immune functions and decreases the oxidative inflammatory stress in their immune cells, but they also show a significant (p < 0.01) increase of life span if the animals are submitted to EE from adulthood. Therefore, EE, which represents an active life, seems to be a useful strategy for extending longevity.
