Abstract

To the Editor:
Our article (Nfon CK, Toka FN, Kenney M, Pacheco JM, and Golde WT: Loss of plasmacytoid dendritic cell function coincides with lymphopenia and viremia during foot-and-mouth disease virus infection. Viral Immunol 2010;23:29–41) appeared in the February 2010 issue of Viral Immunology. In our the material and methods section, we stated that: “FMDV C-s8C1 is a plaque-purified derivative of the natural isolate of serotype C1 Santa Pau Spain 70. This has been repeatedly passed on BHK-21 and thus adapted for heparin sulfate binding (20). Pigs at PIADC were infected with the plaque-purified C-s8C1 (FMDV C-s8C1 BHK) and virus collected from vesicular fluid was diluted in supplemented MEM (C-s8C1 PIADC PP1).”
The second sentence above describes the FMDV MARLS sub-isolate, not C-s8C1. We apologize for this misstatement and wish to issue the following correction: “FMDV C-s8C1 is a plaque-purified derivative of the natural isolate of serotype C1 Santa Pau Spain 70 (20). Pigs at PIADC were infected with the plaque-purified C-s8C1 provided by Dr. N. Sevilla, INIA, Madrid, Spain, expanded in BHK cells for a single passage (FMDV C-s8C1 BHK). Virus was collected from vesicular fluid and diluted in supplemented MEM (C-s8C1 PIADC PP1). After the initial inoculation of swine, the stocks used in these studies were only from vesicular fluid of infected pigs termed pig passage 1 or pig passage 2 (C-s8C1 PIADC PP1 or C-s8C1 PIADC PP2).”
