Tuning of PID Controllers for First and Second-Order Lag Processes with Dead Time

A method for tuning PID controllers for a class of processes with dead time is presented. The controller settings are so determined that the overall system output satisfies a predefined control objective. Effectiveness of the proposed method for tuning controllers is illustrated by means of numerical examples.
