Dynamic response and stability of basalt woven fabric composites under impulsive compression

Abstract

A modeling method is presented for the impulsive compression response of basalt woven fabric composites. Difference equations are used to describe the mechanical properties of basalt woven fabric composites in this model. These equations are obtained by experimental curves, and the result indicates that this method is suitable to describe the behaviors of basalt woven fabric composites at various strain rates. The frequency response and stability of basalt woven fabric composites under quasi-static and high strain rate compression have been analyzed and discussed in z-transform domain. The result shows that the magnitude and phase responses are very different in quasi-static loading from that in the high strain rate one. The basalt woven fabric composite system gradually turns stable with increasing strain rate. The model successfully fitted the impact response of basalt woven fabric composites.
