Re: 2018 European (IUSTI/WHO) guideline on the management of vaginal discharge
Following the conduct and subsequent publication of a randomised controlled trial for the treatment of trichomoniasis in women, which demonstrated that a 7-day course of metronidazole had significantly higher cure rates compared with a single dose, 1 minor amendments to the 2018 guideline 2 have been made. The key change in recommendation is that first line treatment should be a 7-day course of oral metronidazole and that a single dose is no longer recommended as first line treatment. The updated changes are available at https://iusti.org/treatment-guidelines/.
