The Personnel Function in Australia: A Shakesperian Analogy

Abstract

Irrespective of whether futurology is individually regarded as an art, a science, black magic, poetic licence or just a feeling in one's water, two facts are very clear: firstly, things do change over time and that rate of change varies from immediate to imperceptible; secondly, to comprehend the future we need to understand the past. Whilst I am as eager a futurologist as the next person, in presenting a view of the current and likely future role of personnel in Australia, it seems to me that the dilemma faced by the young Prince of Denmark in Shakespeare's Hamlet offers a useful analogy.
