Kossuth County,Iowa

One of the counties in Iowa is Kossuth County. I’ve never been there, but the county is named after a famous Hungarian. I am the son of Hungarian immigrants, the first-generation to be born in America. Listening to Simon & Garfunkel, in their famous song of that name, we hear a catalog of adventures. To their adventures, I wish to add a few of my own. America is an amalgam. Kossuth County has an automotive museum. So says the Internet. Motorsports and Agricultural Museum. When you’ve got it, flaunt it. There is a car guy inside of me, which is to say I like the idea of going fast even though I don’t drive. My cerebral palsy is such that I can’t get my body to react smoothly or quickly enough. So to me a car is an idea. It is something to ride in, to be driven in. Once self-driving cars become roadworthy, I’m totally buying one. I’m buying one and driving it coast to coast. I’ll crank Simon and Garfunkel’s song on the radio. Intrigued by the “mysterious” (Carless, 2018, p. 227) quality in songwriting, my musical styling leaves much to be desired. I have never succeeded at writing a song.

I recognize and agree with the declaration “Reflexivity is not enough” (Stephenson, 2018, p. 179) and still I feel fortunate that Simon and Garfunkel’s words have already been written, and by someone else. When self-driving cars become roadworthy, I’ll pack those words with me, along for the ride.
