Abstract
Our initial thoughts on a potential theory of dining and a potential theory of lodging were published in this journal earlier this year and were presented at the 2017 ICHRIE conference in Baltimore, MD. Scholars discussed our ideas and indicated a willingness to explore them further. We will publish an update of each possible theory in the next edition with the ideas generated at the conference. However, we know that much more thoughtful conversation is needed to advance the theories. We extend this invitation to our readers and encourage authors to consider producing conceptual work on such ideas as the nature of hospitality or our potential theories of dining and lodging. Certainly, an author could have conceptual ideas beyond this list. A special edition of the journal is being planned to consolidate such work. We encourage you to submit your ideas to contribute to this scholarly discussion.
