Considerations on the Preisach Model of Ferromagnetic Hysteresis

The physical meaning of the Preisach model and its ability to describe particle interactions are discussed. Some expressions of the system internal energy are derived, and used to characterize the states of minimum energy. The effect of particle interactions is discussed in the frame of Henkel plots. It is shown that the Preisach model predicts quite general Henkel plot relationships which can be exploited in the comparison with experimental data. A dynamic generalization of the Preisach model is then proposed, in which the rate of change of the flux associated with each elementary Preisach loop is not infinite, as in the standard Preisach model, but proportional to the difference between the external field and the loop threshold fields. The model predicts for the hysteresis loop area a law of the form C₀ + C₁ √f. The model is well suited to applications in the field of power loss calculations in soft Magnetic materials.
