The paper presents a solution to the problem of elastohydrodynamic lubrication in thin shell bearings using an exact solution for the elastic distortions due to a pressure distribution around the bearing. Results are presented for various shell diameter ratios. The computed solutions are for a material with a Poisson's ratio of 0·4, and the bearing is assumed to be infinitely long and lubricated with an isoviscous fluid. Additional results are presented for the elastic distortions in bearings with rubber and metal shells.
