Energy problems will play a fundamental role in the near future and it is necessary that researchers, engineers, economists, ecologists start working together, before it is too late, in order to increase the existing non-fossil energy sources, to develop new sources or new technologies using less energy without polluting the environment. This situation may lead in some cases to conflicting actions, and therefore the engineer's task is to find the optimal solutions. The problem is considered from both the national and international points of view.
